CHEMICAL DISABILITIES COUNT

Across the board, chemical disabilities are underrepresented in accessibility and awareness. Even a lot of doctors do not know that health issues like Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and MAST Cell Activation Syndrome exist, let alone are disabilities. People with auto immune disorders, who are neuro diverse or who have chronic health concerns are all more likely to be chemically sensitive, with scents (even natural ones) at the top of the list.

15% of Canadians self reported as being scent sensitive, and it’s unacceptable that our government doesn’t care about us.

Currently we have protection under the Canadian human rights commission to have our disability accommodated by employers, yet all the hospitals, schools and government buildings are not complying with the existing safe cleaning guidelines and numerous recommendations put forth by the Women’s College Hospital (even though millions of tax dollars were put into the groups to research these issues).

The Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care released their scent awareness policy in 2010, and eight years later this should have been a mandatory roll out across all health facilities.

Please use the provincial resources to find your Federal, Provincial and Municipal politicians and tell them they have to do better for their constituents. Copy and paste information and resources to send to them. Get access to human rights lawyers.
